Celebrating Endurance!
The City of Auburn celebrates all things “endurance” in its pedestrian-friendly Cental Square area, across the intersection from the main plaza and distinctly marked by a handsome brick pillar. The pillar contains information and photos about the City of Auburn’s endurance event history. As you meander up and down the street near the pillar, you can view tile insets honoring our amazing athletes and incredible sports and community contributors, all of whom provide ample credence to the City’s tagline “Endurance Capital of the World™.

Harvey Roper
Without Harvey Roper the Endurance Zone in Central Square never would have happened. This can be said about many other “only in Auburn” developments. Harvey was an instigator, a mediator, a doer and a contributor extraordinaire. He was also a gifted outdoorsman, hiker, and both a road and mountain bike rider. He was one of the founders of the Endurance Capital Committee and was deeply dedicated to the concept of Auburn as the Endurance Capital of the World™.
