About “A Race for the Ages” from Race Director Lazarus Lake:

ARFTA was never intended to become an annual affair, but the response to ARFTA 1 was overwhelming. And so we are now preparing for ARFTA 2, coming up over Labor Day weekend, 2016. For those who are not familiar, the Race for the Ages is not exactly a handicapped event. The race ends at noon on Labor Day, and every runner is allotted one hour for every year of age… with a minimum of 24 hours. Last year, the oldest entrant was 84, so we had starts for 60 consecutive hours! The winner is the person who accumulates the most mileage during their time on the course. Last year’s ARFTA featured the greatest collection of ultrarunning talent ever assembled… only it was about 30 years too late! ARFTA has turned into one of the grand reunions in all of sports. This is your chance to rub shoulders with some of the greatest ultrarunners in American history. You can run with (or run down) the heroes of the past.

Other race features include; real indoor restrooms (!), a catered meal, with a vegetarian option, every 6 hours for the duration of the event (catering by patch manor … this is no ordinary race fare), an ice wagon, ample camping space all along the 1-mile certified loop, indoor sleeping spaces allocated based on age (oldest runners get first choice), air conditioned race headquarters, 100 or 200 mile belt buckles, three different motels less than a mile from the venue, a post race feast at the finish, an ideal setting to finish your first 100..or your 100th, and some of the best storytellers you will ever hear, telling tales about running ultras in the “old days.”
