Robert “Bob” Miller 1/21/1947 – 2/28/2024

Robert “Bob” Miller passed away peacefully in his home on February 28th at the age of 77 after courageously battling Prostate Cancer for 2 years.

Bob was born on January 21, 1947 to Fred and Roberta “Marie” Miller in Sacramento, CA. He was raised in the Sacramento area, graduated from Encina High School in 1965 and San Jose State College in 1969. In 1970, he enlisted in the Air Force Reserves and served for 7 years.


Bob was married to Beverlee Reina from 1966 to 1997. They raised 5 children in the Sacramento region over the next 20 years before moving to Auburn in 1989.


He was employed in the Banking industry as an Account Executive for 30+ years. He worked for Home Federal while living in the Sacramento area and continued his career in Auburn where he was employed by Placer Savings and Loan and then J.P. Morgan Chase, retiring in 2012.


He was lucky to find love again and married Joyce Lambros in 2003. They loved vacationing in Lake Tahoe, Monterey and Maui, always finding trails to explore and enjoy. Throughout his life, Bob was an avid racquetball player and member of the Auburn Racquet Club. Bob was a sports enthusiast. He loved watching San Francisco Giants and 49ers games and was a proud supporter of Placer Hillman Football. But nothing gave him more pleasure than watching his grandchildren’s soccer or baseball games.


Bob loved the Auburn community with all it has to offer, having served as Chairman of the City of Auburn Endurance Capital Committee for the past 10 years. He was very proud to promote and represent the city of Auburn as “The Endurance Capital of the World®”. You would see him and his great smile at all the local events at the Endurance Booth alongside his wife, Joyce.


Bob is survived by his wife, Joyce, his 5 children; Paul Miller (Amy Hall), Rebekah (Scott) Graef, Matthew (Shannon) Miller, Jonathan (Rachel) Miller, Megan (Troy) Hotaling, 3 step children Kim (Luis) Arellano, Helen (Nizar) Slim, Leah (Gregory) Harbottle, his 12 grandchildren and 4 step grandchildren, his sister Joan (Dean) Carter and former spouse Beverlee (Carl) Kimura as well as many nieces and nephews.


A very special thank you to family, friends, neighbors and the Auburn Community for cards, flowers and support. Bob will live in our hearts forever. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

The City of Auburn greeted the UTMB Race Organizers from Chamonix France with open arms for 2+ days of running Ultra Running trail events and festivities. Downtown Auburn was closed off and store owners to advantage of the incredible influx of runners, spectators, friends and families to boost their weekend sales. The 3-day Expo was nonstop busy, being the location of the runner’s race packet pick-up, and the Endurance Capital Committee with their handsome pop-up tent made sure that everyone was well aware of the history and validation of Auburn’s Endurance Capital of the World™ status!

On April 1, 2023, Overlook Park in the City of Auburn was the finish area of the prestigious and venerable American River 50 Miler (est. 1980). Learn more about this year’s event on the Auburn Endurance Capital’s Facebook page and the event’s Website. CLICK HERE for results.

Meanwhile on the South side of I-80, at Hidden Falls Regional Park, a brand new event, the Placer Trail Running Festival, attracted its own share of running enthusiasts. A beautiful cool and sunny Spring morning greeted the participants, who had a choice of a 50K, 25K, 5K “Canicross” (aka run-with-your-dog), 5K, and Kids 1K. The Bad Luck Running Club hosted the event to benefit the Placer Land Trust, which supports conservation, access, and preservation of hundreds of acres in the region.

A total of 46 finished the 50k, 178 the 25K, 14 (28 If you count the canine partners) the 5K Canicross, 30 the 5K, and a cluster of kids enjoyed the 1K. Congratulations finishers and event staff and volunteers!

Auburn-based Epic Endurance Events has announced that two of its Canyons Ultras (April 23, 2022) events have been assigned as qualifiers for two of the Inaugural Ultra Trail Mont Blanc (UTMB®) World Series Championships. The 50K will be a qualifier for the OCC and the 100K will be a qualifier for the CCC. OCC and CCC are acronyms for the towns through which the routes travel, and their distances are the same as those of the qualifiers. To date only the two Canyons events and the Western States 100 Miler are the only US qualifying events for any of the UTMB® events. The UTMB® World Series currently has 22 qualifying events from around the world.

The grueling 100-mile UTMB®, based in Chamonix, France, was established in 2003 with a course that roughly parallels the Tour de France section of the same name. Participants travel over alpine terrain in France, Switzerland and Italy.

Join the fun by participating with the Endurance Capital Committee’s Float entry at the 2024 Festival of Lights Parade on December 7!

Meet us at the top of Lincoln Way in the parking lot between the First Foundation Bank and the Western States Endurance Run Warehouse. (Wendell Robie’s old stomping ground.)

We need many hands from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 pm on Saturday. Take a break, eat and get ready for the parade that forms at 5:00 pm and Starts at 5:30 pm.

We will sprawl out quite a bit and so the Parade Managers have given us Harrison Avenue where we will get organized. I’m not sure what our entry number is but will find out next week.

Wear lights and fun hats, costumes or whatever you would like. Please spread the word to your respective groups too.

					On Feb. 16, 2019, Shannon Weil of Cool CA, just outside Auburn, CA, was inducted into the Sacramento Running Association's Hall of Fame due to her tremendous contributions to the Western States Endurance Run, the Tevis Cup 100-Mile in One Day Equestrian Ride, and the Western States Trail Foundation. Her vision, energy, and passion were huge factors in launching the sport of ultra distance running back in the 1970s. It has since become one of the fastest growing running sports in the world, and this in turn has spawned a whole new genre of nutrition, gear, travel, and medical support industries.
