This Justin Niemi YouTube gives you a great idea of what Enduro Mountain Bike Racing is all about.

The California Enduro Series (CES) has been held throughout California (and sometimes nearby states) since 2013, and on July 31, 2021 it returned to Mammoth Bar for the 3rd of its 5 events. CES has a mission statement that reads: “The California Enduro Series (CES) is a for-riders, by-riders operation. The ultimate goal is to create world-class enduro events that everyone from pros to amateurs can enjoy and showcase the amazing locations that make California one of the best places to mountain bike on earth.”

CES is based in Santa Cruz, and works with event managers at the locations it selects each year. This year the organization they partnered with for the Mammoth Bar edition was Total Body Finess, specifically TBF Racing, based in the Roseville/Granite Bay area, and owner of hundreds of running, cycling, and multi-sport events in our area each year.

To give those unfamiliar with the term “Enduro”, here is the Wikipedia definition: “Enduro in its most basic definition is a type of mountain bike racing where the downhills are timed, and the uphills are mandatory but not timed. Riders are timed in stages that are primarily downhill, with neutral “transfer” stages in between. The transfer stages usually must be completed within a time-limit, but are not part of the accumulated time.”

The race at Mammoth Bar had 4 stages, basically 4 separate courses with a transition phase between each. The 300+ participants ranged from young to old, novices to experienced. Each group had a start time, that allowed for the riders to space out over the distances. All were rewarded with barbecue and beverages upon finishing. Scoring is cumulative with awards presented to top series finishers at the end of the series.

The City of Auburn’s Endurance Capital Committee was present at the finish area, and we found that mountain bike riders came to this event literally from all over the state and beyond. We welcomed the riders to the Endurance Capital of the World™, and enjoyed  giving away our now-famous logoed items (neck gaiters, can holders, water bottles, bandanas, cowbells, coasters, stickers and more…). Afterall, it is only fitting for our Committee to be present at an event with a name like “Enduro”!

• Report from Placer County Land Trust 3/11:

We thank all of you who supported this project, from the original landowners who had a vision for conservation and recreation to those who recently shared their wishes with the County Supervisors. One of those supporters, John Taylor, expressed his excitement about the future of this project: “Fourteen years ago, my family sold the Taylor Ranch to Placer Land Trust for the specific purpose of providing public recreational access to the property. The public is now on the cusp of reaching that goal: access to a fabulous recreation area that will be an outstanding resource for Placer County.”

The next step of this project will be to create public access to Placer Land Trust’s Big Hill Preserves. The County has recently been awarded more than $3M in State grant funds to build a parking lot and trailhead off Bell Road. The County estimates this will take 2-3 years to build. In the meantime, we will continue with our current activities (within our COVID-safety protocol) that allow the public to visit these beautiful lands— stay tuned for more guided hikes, family-friendly events, volunteer days, and more.

We hope that everyone will rest assured that Placer Land Trust’s lands will always be subject to conservation goals and restrictions, including continued agricultural use and habitat protection. In line with that vision, we plan to continue grazing on the preserves for land management; the trail system on our lands north of Hidden Falls will be much less dense than at Hidden Falls Regional Park; and recreation on our lands will retain a “backcountry” feel. As in nature, balance is the key to any successful community. We are optimistic that we can find balance in the use of these lands — including the protection of natural habitats and wildlife; agricultural uses that benefit ranchers, our local economy, and forest health; and meeting the needs of people to get outdoors for their physical and mental health. Planning for the future isn’t always easy, but we think future generations will be very glad we did!

LATEST NEWS! The completion deadline has been extended to  October 31 AND you may use hours of activity as well as miles to complete your challenge.

15 minutes of any of these (and more) = 1 Mile: YOGA, CROSS FIT, CLIMB, TENNIS, PICKLE BALL, RACQUET BALL, SPIN, etc.

You may also COMBINE a mix of your endurance activities and apply them towards your ultimate goal!

Participants who achieve at least 50 miles (or equivalent of mixed endurance activites) will receive a handsome –  finisher’s medal. Participants who complete the full 100-mile distance (or equivalent of mixed endurance activites) will receive a larger finisher’s medal. Participants will also have the option to upgrade their medal to a buckle for a small fee.

COMBINE your endurance activities that can be measured in distance and apply the distance towards your ultimate goal!

While 100 miles is the ultimate goal, we understand that not everyone will be physically able to complete the full 100 miles, for that reason participants that achieve at least 50 miles will receive a 50 mile award, and runners that complete the full 100 mile distance will receive a larger finisher’s medal. Participants will also have the option to upgrade their medal to a buckle for a small fee.
